Welcome to ClipCast
arifsali
by arifsali  12-12-2007    172
Welcome but so far I feel I have lost my community by entering into a room with no lights. What in the world is going on and what in the world is ClipCast. What happened to my Clipmarks Community? Okay I will keep on playing more to make some sense.

Clipmarks named worthy replacement for Google Notebook
egoldstein
by egoldstein  1-16-2009    14
Love the last sentence..."Where Clipmarks trumps Google Notebook is with its sharing, by letting you publish your clipping for the entire Clipmarks community to see and comment on." That's a tip of the hat to all you clippers out there!!! Oh, and if they think Clipmarks is a worthy replacement for Google Notebook, just wait until they get a load of what we've been working on - coming soon!

Two clipworthy comments about the potential Clipmarks/Forbes deal
egoldstein
by egoldstein  8-8-2007    13
These are two of the comments from Techcrunch's coverage. Two sentences here really jumped out at me. 1) it does something that neither digg nor delicious can do. 2) the community is much better than anywhere else. (my comment: damn right it is :) )

World War III Cancelled
Elisabeth Eaves
by Elisabeth Eaves  12-4-2007    10
So it turns out that Iran stopped developing nuclear weapons in 2003, according to the new National Intelligence Estimate. It's easy to distrust the U.S. intelligence community, which not only made mistakes on Al-Qaeda and Iraq, but also told us in 2005 that Tehran was determined to build nukes. But there's at least one thing we can all be relieved about today: Imminent open warfare between the U.S. and Iran is almost certainly off the table.

Christian Zionism: A story everyone should know

RABBI MICHAEL LERNER: Well-- I'm hoping we have a few more years here. And I think in the 21st Century the growing wisdom of the American people and of all people is that our well being depends on the well being of everyone else on the planet, and I think that the Israeli population increasingly are coming to understand that their well being depends on the well being of Palestinians and of the Arab world. That there's that fundamental interdependence.

Wikipedia and the Meaning of Truth
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  10-23-2008    6
These policies have become the social contract for Wikipedia's army of apparently insomniac volunteers. Thanks to them, incorrect information generally disappears quite quickly. So how do the Wikipedians decide what's true and what's not? On what is their epistemology based? Unlike the laws of mathematics or science, wikitruth isn't based on principles such as consistency or observability. It's not even based on common sense or firsthand experience. Wikipedia has evolved a radically different set of epistemological standards--standards that aren't especially surprising given that the site is rooted in a Web-based community, but that should concern those of us who are interested in traditional notions of truth and accuracy. On Wikipedia, objective truth isn't all that important, actually. What makes a fact or statement fit for inclusion is that it appeared in some other publication--ideally, one that is in English and is available free online. "The threshold for inclusion in Wiki

"But there are so many people who are souls "in progress, who do not seek to engage in conflict. They are passionate people who lose it for a moment. As far as my own history. I used to get caught up in flame wars on line-- in forums, listserves, email-- more often than I would have liked. Then I set a simple rule for myself. If I write a message-- email, comment, posting-- that is angry and mean or combative-- I sit on it, preferably overnight. I don't send it out right away. One thing I learned from a researcher is that when you write down stuff that bothers you, that makes you sad, angry, miserable, just writing it down can be therapeutic. But then, if you throw it away, or delete it, that can also be a good healthy thing to do. This researcher even showed that when people did this-- wrote down stuff that made them angry-- their immune functions improved. I'd say that 98% of the time, when I write an angry missive-- and I still do ocassionally-- I end up throwing them away. I ge

Just for the Love of It: Riches beyond Cash

It's about sharing your tools so you all can have access to all the tools under the sun without it costing the earth. It's about using any free space you have to either benefit positive, ethical and local projects, or to enable volunteers to keep doing their amazing work for free. It's about sharing the land you don't need in order to facilitate a local food community. It's about freeconnecting neighbours. It's about learning to help each other again. It's about getting ready for a post peak oil world. It's about making dinner for a friend who was yesterday a stranger. It's about keeping money out of the equation. It's about communicating face-to-face and phasing out technological communication. It's about putting the soul back into society. It's about helping each other not for profit, but just for the love-ofit. What is a Freeconomy? A Freeconomy is a moneyless society in which no money changes and there is no duality between giving and receiving; here they are seen as

All the bruhaha around Obama's special olypmics comment is ridiculous. You know he didn't mean to disrespect them and you know he didn't mean it the way it came out. It was a mistake and shouldn't have been said, but come on. Palin's comment that she hopes it does "not reflect how he truly feels about the special needs community" is a cheap shot and stupid. She's knows damn well that's not the case and to suggest otherwise about the president of the united states is shameful.

Banned Books Week
carrerinyes
by carrerinyes  9-21-2009    10
During the last week of September every year, hundreds of libraries and bookstores around the country draw attention to the problem of censorship by mounting displays of challenged books and hosting a variety of events. The 2009 celebration of Banned Books Week will be held from September 26 through October 3. The purpose of this Web site is to help the public join the celebration of our freedom to read. The easiest way is to visit a participating library or bookstore. There is a list of Events, to help you find one in your community. (If you want to post information about an event in your community, please click here.) There is also a list of suggestions of other activities that will help remind people of the importance of free speech, What You Can Do. If you want further information about BannedBooksWeek.org, contact us at info@abffe.com or bbw@ala.org.

Why it pays to buy local...
egoldstein
by egoldstein  8-10-2009    3
Seems to me that buying local - especially in regards to food - is going to be a major trend over the next decade. Considering that almost everything on the shelves in mass market retailers is made in China, buying local would be quite a change from an economic perspective.
