POPSLunar Cycle affects Cyclone strength Known as Hurricanes, Typhoons and Cyclones, depending on the location Scientists have noticed the pattern, but are yet to discover the mechanism behind the variations

POPSTibetan glaciers rapidly melting The Water supply of nearly a billion people in South Asia in peril? Rather euphemistic way of describing it.! The effects will be devastating. A combination of drought, and Rivers that have become sewers never being purged, to say the least. There is no reason to believe that the melt will do anything but what it has continued to do so far...accelerate. Once scientists were often surprised. Now they are stunned. Why? They once had some fool idea they knew what they were talking about...but they were wrong. At least according to the reports we've had ACCESS to.

POPSMammoth genome may explain extinction. Perhaps after the ice age, woolly mammoths just overheated? Global warming means most of the Mammoths that have been in the deep freeze for 10,000 years, will thaw out. The next species on the agenda, is Neanderthal Man.

POPSFifth of the world's coral dead: report The estimates of impact of Greenhouse gas, and environmental degradation are conservative. Generally things such as food chains are breaking down more rapidly than expected. Coral is at the bottom of a significant number of marine and in turn land based food chains i.e The breakdown is accelerating

POPSClock Ticking on Global Warming Call this a companion to my morning post . The piece tells us: here are powerful political and economic realities that must be quickly overcome for Obama to succeed. Despite the urgency he expresses, it's not at all clear that he and Congress will agree on an approach during a worldwide financial crisis in time to meet some of the more crucial deadlines. Repeat this as often as you can; "the environment and financial crises have the same solution."

POPSNanofood safety proposal 'NOT good enough' Why? because it is DANGEROUS. It does nothing to benefit the consumer, but is a means of increasing profits by extending shelf life and appearance. There is a barrier called the Blood-Brain barrier, where the pores through osmosis will only admit a certain number of chemicals. with small molecular size, and identity. Nanofood elements throw a new invasive potential into the mix generally when there are alternatives that are much more healthy.

POPSStudy unravels bacteria's Stress buster It's described as a "global response' which is far more detailed that they once believed.. It can also show where the responses of animal cells in general can have a mechanism that can be compared.

POPSScientists create solar cells with a twist. I suppose it won't be hard to have the power to at least power a Laptop. Perhaps a Solar powered tent for camping. We are finding new ways to transform energy into media we can use, and it, with the open information on the web is only bound to improve dramatically

POPSOur choices go to the core of who we are - Accounting for Taste "We consume books, movies, music, and visual art primarily to fulfill the internal emotional needs that are fundamental to our personalities. But we also make choices about art based on a desire to carve out identities for ourselves—to articulate the stories of our lives. By the same token, we look for those stories in others"

POPS'Old-boy's club holding back innovation We all now have access to a vast amount of research and data on the net. a Few people would have absolutely no hope, but the networks being created on the web, are places where anyone can comment, or include findings, so the pieces can start coming together more quickly. It isn't what we know that is important. it's what we do with the knowledge

POPSThe big bounce vs Big Bang Edwin Hubble and Stephen Hawking, and the discovery of Cosmic background radiation amongst other contributers drafted the Big Bang Theory, but Each knew it was a theory, and destined to be qualified significantly as our our technology and depth of understanding progresses. Big bang is a Theory, not a conclusion. Ask Stephen Hawking to consider any new theories, and evidence, and he would be delighted to consider the evidence. He's a scientist, and a Mathematician, who knows how limited our theories can be with what we know. He is looking for what happened, not what may have happened,.

POPS'Historic' 'bailout' passes Congress This has got Nothing whatsoever to do with People (Who?) This is to bail ou the banking industry and corporate holdings. - give them the cash, and when the Economy hits rock bottom the idea is to buy out things of value, real assets for pennies. There is an Australian Movie 'The Castle' that puts into context "They're Dreamin' " Are we going to sell what we own Like they've sold the U.S. to Europe.? That's up to You

POPSCola, stale chip research win win Ig Nobels What they found about the mechanism of sperm and aids killing makes me wonder if cola can be used on other micro organisms like MRSA. The sperm in the sugar, no doubt with the chemicals in cola acting as a catalyst, cause them to 'Eat themselves to death, through osmosis, and the recognition of sugar opening some cellular gates.

POPS'Chemical equator' keeps southern air clean The virtual map says it all. Now it means the approach to the solution of the pollution problem needs to be tackled in different ways in each hemisphere. Atmospheric pollution is only one problem. More investigation needs to be done into the nature of oceanic pollution. it did make me wonder of the Nuclear Fusion experiments on Mururoa (Aopuni) and Bikini atolls in French Polynesia last Century. The first nuclear test was conducted on July 2, 1966, code named Aldebaran. France abandoned nuclear testing in the atmosphere in 1974 and moved testing underground in the midst of intense world pressure. A total of 147 underground nuclear tests were conducted at Mururoa and Fangataufa. This practice created much controversy as cracking of the atolls was discovered, A 1979 test conducted at half the usual depth caused a large submarine landslide on the southwest rim of the atoll. Just somehow seemed relevant
