About me
I'm an Australian living in Sydney, in a house with my brother and 6 husky/shepherds. He watches TV while I use the computer. My dog Lani hates the computer because she'd rather go walking. I like to try and find out how things work, since discovering what is beneath the cover, can show a new way of looking at something you know, but which can now be understood More clearly.
"I may be guilty of being an idealist, ( ..and a bad poet - but that is more painful) - but I have never had the courage to believe in nothing"
Don Quixote, played by Alonzo Quijana, played by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, played by Peter O'Toole in
"Man of La Mancha"

"We do say that it is the duty, and the responsibility of the community, and particularly those more fortunately placed to see that our less fortunate fellow citizens are protected from those shafts of fate which leave them helpless and without hope, this is the objective for which we are striving. It is, as I have said before, the Beacon: the light on the hill to which our eyes are always turned and to which our efforts are always directed."
Ben Chifley December 1949
Prime Minister of Australia
13 July 1945 – 19 December 1949

Today the community is Global.
Why I use Clipmarks
Clipmarks helps me learn, because when I clip something, it forces me to read it, so the bits I clip can carry the story, rather than think I know about something by reading the headlines.
Clipmarks shows people agree about far more things than they disagree.
In the big picture, Clipmarks can help fill a lot of the gaps, and the way messages can be seen both by subject, and by popular opinion, provides a link between the two. Every clipper's clip is posted, because the clipper is satisfied that the clip reflects their point of view, shows a topic of interest, or because they need a safe place to put their bookmarks, with pictures, in case their system crashes.
We need the people to save the world, politicians can't understand the situation while they are isolated in a power bubble. Clipmarks is a great way pick up stories that aren't in the headlines, but are often more important. To see if other people are thinking the same thing I am (or vice versa), and learn by the way they think. It keeps my mind active and shows me how much I have to learn.
I like the way the clips are listed as clipped, so any range of things might be there. It's easy to learn something by surprise.

The Internet Is a Brain
wildcat
by wildcat  9-17-2008    8
There is a lot we can learn from the brain and it can tell us where the Internet is headed next. There’s nothing magical in the brain (at least that we’ve found thus far), and yet it delivers all our mental capabilities, and emotional ones as well – that’s a very intriguing thought. After all, just as there is no particular reason for this lump inside our heads to appreciate fine wines and music, cry, laugh, reason, love, daydream, and aspire to greater things, there is no reason why silicon or some other fundamental substance (maybe even carbon some day), could not be coaxed into creating something similar.

A lot of people criticize Alex Jones, because he has found evidence that shoots down the official line. I clipped one comment because it because it Summarized the video in a Sentence. Everything in the darkness will be brought out into the light. Vampires hate sunlight.

Ubuntu 7.10 Compiz Fusion
pokkets
by pokkets  3-15-2008    1
Compiz Fusion is just one example of the programs available with a complete system such as Ubuntu Ultimate 1.7, comes with it 'out of the box' One example of why I have been busy 'playing' with my computer. So much to learn, so little time, Having fun while getting my mind blown. Making Open Source, built and improved by the users, who are getting younger all the time, seem like the way of the future. It's becoming more user friendly every day. Windows may seem 'easy' but it's not what I'd describe as user friendly. Perhaps Windows friendly. It's a great way with computers, and operating systems to learn exactly what you're dealing with. There's a Ubuntu System upgrade due in April - Free, with automatic installation. There's nothing worse than being in the dark.

VMware Player:Run iso files before installation
pokkets
by pokkets  1-26-2008    2
I put the url of a program that can check iso files on a hard disk in comments and another with VMplayer OS images. The clip might make more sense then I've often wondered how to check an Operating System before installing it, or even burning an iso file onto a Disk. One the main problems apart from the space, has been, after installing another operating system, in a dual boot, it can mess up the boot files of systems already loaded, if it is removed. This player allows booting of another system, or the running of an Appliance in another window without having to reboot, or partition the disks. This could have saved me a lot of trouble over the last month - at least I know more about disk partitions and boot files. They suggest 1GB of free space to give an internally booted system room. It is available for Windows, and Linux, and the site also has a range of other Virtual Appliances, both free, and commercial, is Open Source, and has a knowledge base, community, and Self-Help Support.

Science Screensavers-Quotes,photos, and Bizarre headlines
pokkets
by pokkets  10-18-2007    1
There are famous quotes, nature photos, and bizarre headlines screensavers. I've clipped the windows download links, and there is a winzip download at the site. There are also macintosh versions. They work on Windows XP although I can't see it mentioned. The quotes are great, and refresh after a few seconds. the pictures are also great. The headlines? I can't do better than bizarre. The pictures are winners in a nature photography competition run by the site. The file name for the quote screensaver, is Adx I had trouble finding it, but the name shows in the box, when they're installed

A site that has charts for MP3 downloads, and where downloads are free. It is Australian, and I chose the classical chart, but there are a number of other genres. There's bound to be some kind of music there to suit everyone. I keep getting more amazed at the things I am finding just because I took the trouble to look.
