POPSBush is doing very well in the Transition Whatever you think about him and however much you may dislike him and disagree with his handling of his presidency, he is handling this transition in a very classy manner. He's doing better than the Clintons did to him and he is to be commended, at this historic time for stepping up.

POPSGuilt By Association in North Carolina First its the McCain campaign. Now its Elizabeth Dole. How shameful and how shameless. These tactics are wrong, they degrade the so-called "conservative" movement. In this case they debase Christians and God fearing people generally. Kay Hagan is a Sunday School teacher. This kind of campaigning is disgusting. Do they not know how damaging this is to themselves and to the political process? How can they look themselves in the mirror? These people are destroying American values so much they might as well be terrorists themselves. Joe McCarthy is hootin an hollerin in his grave.

POPSObama - Damned Socialist If he's a socialist, Karl Marx is rolling over in his grave. But wait words don't count....no wait, they do count...no wait they only count when he says them...no,no, I mean when I say them..., I'm confused.

POPSHow has McCain been "tested?" And so, the point is even more clear-cut than it might seem at first glance: Just because "John McCain sat in a cockpit on a flight deck during the tensest five days of the Cuban Missile Crisis, that doesn't mean he absorbed the slightest bit of wisdom about how to handle a crisis from the top." Just being a fighter pilot or a POW doesn't mean you are ready to be president. Nobody really is and this whole experience thing, on both sides, is an enormous red herring.

POPSTired of Divisive Whining - Not John Do these guys have anything to say? Even republicans I know who are voting for them think this is divisive and bad for the country. What really disturbs me is the continued mantra - "the full extent of the relationship with Senator Obama is not known." In his mind no explanation will be good enough. It is the most despicable, divisive and detestable kind of attempted smear. Forget that Obama, the campaign, FactCheck.org, and many media outlets have said that the relationship consisted of participation on the charitable

POPSDemocrats are Worried Have you ever watched a baseball game where every time the announcer says a good thing about your team or player you spend the next ten minutes spitting, throwing salt over your shoulder, knocking on every available piece of wood and crossing all available appendages? That's how the Democrats feel right now. It ain't over.....

POPSWho is Obama? A radical? A centrist? A reconciler? This is an interesting take and I would recommend the whole article.
2
POPSA Woman of the People How many of her constituents get to shop at Needless Markup? How many Joe Six Pack wives do you know who do?
4
POPSPeggy Noonan is Spot On What I like about this clip is the fact that she says that even though experience may be a red herring, Sarah Palin isn't qualified.

POPSPalin's Failure to Talk to the Press Why hasn't she? It is wrong and frightening. No one is allowed to question her. The press is not yelling and screaming and they should be. This is as much a failure of the press as it is a scary tactic by the campaign.
6
POPSThe real Presidential Competition I am convinced now that the real competition here is to see who can be the most disingenuous. McCain seems to be winning in that regard. He is willing to say absolutely anything to win. Obama keeps screwing up and saying things he actually believes.
4
POPSThe right answer on Acorn Forget the partisan bull. If ACORN is paying people based on either quotas or the number of registrations submitted, that is wrong, stupid and bad policy. And if they are on Obama's side, they aren't doing him any favors. Stop whining about partisan politics and being defensive, tell us how you operate and what you do.

POPSRace in the race One wonders when people (on both sides of the aisle) will realize that skin pigmentation has nothing to do with brain function.

POPSObama on Abortion Instead of screaming at each other and calling each other murders, why can't we discuss where we can actually agree? What I like about Obama is that he doesn't just leave it with no common ground. There is common ground if you look for it and understand your opponent. If you refuse to understand you will only gain victory through destruction. That is where we are now. Each side generally is out to destroy the other on this issue. Obama understands that it isn't necessary and that even on the most divisive issue of our time, we can find something. Others refuse to even look.

POPSSay it to my face The Obama campaign has been pretty good. Are they tricking McCain? It will be interesting to see.

POPSHitchens - Vote For Obama That Chris Hitchens says "vote for Obama" is news in itself. Of the Conservative intellects he is one of the smartest. His description of Palin, however, is one of the most articulate and damning I have read.
6
POPSFacts? We don't need no stinkin Facts. "Palin again, a few days ago: “Our opponent is someone who sees America as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country.” At the end of the nineteen-sixties, when Bill Ayers was a leader of the New Left’s most destructive, self-destructive, and delusional splinter, Barack Obama was a small boy living with his mother in Indonesia. The fact that thirty years later Obama and Ayers sat on a couple of the same nonprofit boards tells us no more about Obama’s politics and character than does the fact that another member of one of those boards was Arnold R. Weber, the former president of the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago and a donor of fifteen hundred dollars to the McCain campaign. Ayers and Obama are not now, nor have they ever been, pals."

POPSThe Right Prescription for McCain It probably won't happen because the campaign in mired in the muck of pandering to the "base." McCain sold his soul and now reaps the the "rewards." Had he not, this race could be very different. Had he remained the maverick he was, he could be winning.

POPSIt aint over til its over The fat lady has not sung. The bell has not rung. Any complacency on the part of the Obama camp is foolish. Think USC v. Oregon State. Think Truman v Dewey

POPSSwift Satire gores both sides I think Jon Swift is one of the funnies guys in the blogosphere. He goes on to say: "But some conservative “intellectuals” like David Brooks subscribe to the canard that the conservative movement was defined by pointy-headed eastern elites like William Buckley, whose “entire life,” Brooks recently wrote, “was a celebration of urbane values, sophistication and the rigorous and constant application of intellect.....Brooks even goes so far as to claim that conservatives once valued “constant reading, historical understanding and sophisticated thinking.” We did? Since when? Does he honestly believe that the conservative movement was based on people who read books? Reagan wasn’t elected by the Harvard faculty. It was an angry mob tired of welfare queens and pinko fellow travelers selling us out to the Soviet Union that put him in office."

POPSRepublicans are flailing and Panicking The republicans simply don't get it. Smears have begun to backfire and work less and less, particularly when they aren't credible. The internet and the wealth of information makes parsing words and making false smears stick practically impossible. They haven't figured that out.
9
POPSPalin and Her Followers are frightening I think that says that you abused your power, if I read correctly. This kind of parsing of words is disingenuous in the extreme. It is also either arrogant or stupid to suggest someone read the report knowing they will find Finding Number One. It is hard to believe that John McCain can be trusted with anything if he is suggesting that we should trust Sarah Palin. Someone who abuses her power by using it to further her personal ends in the context of her sister’s nasty divorce, and sees nothing wrong with it, frightens me. Its like the Mafia, don’t cross a family member, your livelihood and your reputation could be in danger. But then, this is what frightened me about the Bush/Cheney Texas Mafia, so I guess I’m just a weenie.

POPSWhat Palin Did I don't get why news agencies are confused. She violated the ethics laws by trying to get the trooper fired. She didn't violate anything by firing the Commissioner of Public Safety. How hard is that? She legally violated Alaska's Executive Branch Ethics Act.
