Now this has to be a fascinating job to have. I think every company should have a futurist-in-residence. It's the best way to ensure you get a jump start on your competitors.

I like job titles that make you do a double-take. I recently spotted this in the Beeb online. These types of articles are becoming more common; I can't imagine it's too long before the novelty wears off and they become ubiquitously meshed yet valuable, like what Steve Jobs thinks of Levi jeans. ;) From an insider perspective (I work for Linden Lab), I should note how dapper Roo aka Algernon looks, and how unique his head is shaped: you'll often not find prominent eyebrows like that in Second Life, especially paired with big blue eyes and a teardrop-shaped head not unlike that of a classic Gray alien. Lots of room for avatar customization, that's for sure.

Just incredible what comes out of MIT. I truly envision a point in 50 years where you will have a brain sitting in a jar connected to a life-blood source and the web.

They really are the pets of the future. This is only going to become more common as our "pocket device" becomes our major interface to the web and all the content and communications that come via it. They're also going to become more humanlike in both style and function -- it will be truly sad to depart from them. Question is, when will THEY feel sad to depart from us?

Wal-Mart bank could threaten U.S. financial system
adamc
by adamc  3-10-2006    1
This should not be overlooked -- Wal-Mart wants to be the bank for the masses. They have the customer base, infrastructure and deep pockets to pull it off. Can you imagine the additional profit and power they could generate if they were also the clearinghouse for financial transactions?
