About me
As one of my favorite literary characters say, I was born (hail Michael Moorcock)! Unlike him, I am not certain that's really my beginning. I'm pretty sure I am aware and hopefully conscious by now. For me, that's certainly a beginning of something.
Why I use Clipmarks
Cool, easy, speedy and rewarding way to get into people's minds (likes, dis-likes, source of inspiration and most of all - interest) while taking part in the expanding informational universe.
Besides, its such a strong evidence and playground for the reality we live, in which editing is THE storyteller.

Doctor performs amputation following instructions sent by text
Fast T friend
by Fast T friend  Today 8:33 AM
Dr Nott was unsure that he should operate. “I had to think long and hard about whether it was right ot leave a young boy with only one arm in the middle of this fighting,” he said. “In the end he would have died without it so I took a deep breath and followed the instructions to the letter.”

Surgical lasers to heal cuts
Fast T friend
by Fast T friend  11-26-2008
To overcome this problem, Katzir and his colleagues developed a laser-based system with a feedback loop that prevents overheating. First, they had to determine the optimal temperature at which flesh melts but can still heal (about 65 degrees Celsius). Then the group created a pen-sized tool that incorporates optic fibers: one that channels a carbon dioxide-powered infrared laser to the wound with pinpoint precision, and another that leads from the pen to an infrared sensor, which measures the temperature and ensures that the heat remains within the ideal range, between 60 and 70 degrees. All a surgeon has to do is move the pen's tip along the cut, strengthening and sealing the weld with a solder of water-soluble protein.

Synthetic Viruses Could Explain Animal-to-Human Jumps
Fast T friend
by Fast T friend  11-25-2008
The new virus did not kill mice, however. Other genetic differences between the synthetic and natural strains can now be studied to learn what makes SARS so virulent, said Denison, and the technique applied to other viruses similar to SARS. These include the Ebola, Hanta, Nipah and Chikunguya viruses, all of which originated in animals and are lethal to people. "You could get to a point where, within a couple weeks of an epidemic being identified, you've already grown and generated viruses for the study of immune response," said Denison.

Researchers 'fake' spam and learn how it makes money
Fast T friend
by Fast T friend  11-11-2008    1
"After 26 days, and almost 350 million e-mail messages, only 28 sales resulted," wrote the researchers. The response rate for this campaign was less than 0.00001%. This is far below the average of 2.15% reported by legitimate direct mail organisations. "Taken together, these conversions would have resulted in revenues of $2,731.88—a bit over $100 a day for the measurement period," said the researchers. Scaling this up to the full Storm network the researchers estimate that the controllers of the vast system are netting about $7,000 (£4,430) a day or more than $2m (£1.28m) per year.
