POPSHigh Quality Journalism The big reason you aren't seeing the public shedding many tears over the demise of the NYT is that we all know that they've dug their own grave. The impending demise of the NYT isn't tragedy, it's justice.

POPSReality Bites The Citgo funding from Chavez was, I think, primarily designed to be a slap in the face for George W. Bush -- "Hey look, we're an 'evil Communist' nation, yet we're helping to keep your poor, whom you obviously care nothing about, warm during the winter." At the same time, Joe Kennedy probably thought he was bridging the philosophical gap between capitalism and communism and working for the common good ... all while shaming Bu$hCo, which was too busy wallowing in oil profits to notice the plight of the poor. If you don't like Republicans, such an arrangement probably looks like a winning strategy.

POPSSelf-Referential Manufactured Outrage Alert see if you can find a post which even takes the Palestinian groups to task for their launching of rockets into Israel, suicide bombings, or any of the other atrocities the Religion of Peace likes to engage in, targeting civilians on purpose!

POPSThe Hilarious Case for Caroline Kennedy Is Governor Paterson looking to appoint a senator or selecting a race horse based on "blood lines?" I can just picture Paterson with his fingers in Caroline's mouth checking to see the condition of her teeth. Oh, and even if Caroline is stupid it won't matter. Her money and fame can attract a top quality staff

POPSBring On The Partisanship So bring on the poo-flinging from both sides. It is a significant and vital part of multi-party political systems. I don't know why anyone would expect Obama to catch a break. It's not like the beefs Republicans had about him before the election - and there were plenty - vanished once the votes were tallied. Living in the US I've obviously got a vested interest in how Obama performs. But how he's perceived publicly is no worry of mine.

POPSRichardson Down in Flames And if you go to the very, very, very last paragraph in the story you might find an oblique reference that Bill Richardson is a Democrat.

POPSDefeat for the Defeatists The defeated defeatists include many senators, congressmen, and elitists in Washington. They include Harry Reid, who said, “I believe … that this war is lost,” in April 2007. They include many members of the incoming administration, up to the president-elect himself. Though the defeatists are in control, they know full well that if they allow Iraq to go the way of Vietnam, this time they will get the blame — and the blowback.

POPS2009 Prediction So all that will change for now will be the sudden absence of shrill complaints that we live in an America without a Constitution. Static, same-old, same-old government policy will, of course, be said to have altered radically (”hoped and changed”), but it will also be refashioned in the media as “sober” and “judicious”, as the administration moves “in circumspect fashion” to probe and explore “complex” and often “paradoxical” matters of national security that “indeed at the end of the day have no easy answers”.

POPS2008 Media Quotes of the Year Barbra Streisand Political IQ Award for Celebrity Vapidity "If you have a few hundred followers, and you let some of them molest children, they call you a cult leader. If you have a billion, they call you ‘Pope.’ It’s like, if you can’t pay your mortgage, you’re a deadbeat. But if you can’t pay a million mortgages, you’re Bear Stearns and we bail you out. And that is who the Catholic Church is: the Bear Stearns of organized pedophilia." — Bill Maher on HBO’s Real Time, April 11. Admitting the Obvious Award “When NBC News first assigned me to the Barack Obama campaign, I must confess my knees quaked a bit....I wondered if I was up to the job. I wondered if I could do the campaign justice.” — NBC reporter Lee Cowan in an article for NBC’s “The Peacock” advertising supplement, March 23-29.

POPSSantaCorp Pleads Case For Bailout "You might say it's a perfect snowstorm," said Merrill Lynch analyst Jennifer Rothstein. "The youth consumer market is demanding more for less, at a time when the government and courts have forced SantaCorp to lower its 'good list' credit rating standards. They face increased non-union competition from the East Pole, and huge increases in fuel prices for magical reindeer flying hay. It's a hard sell for the investment community."

POPSThe Taxman Cometh I hope New Yorkers tax themselves into bliss and happiness. Make the tax rate actually go negative at some point - if you make 1 dollar more than $250K (to use the Messiah's old limit on what is considered to be rich) you would owe $1.05 in taxes. Peace and Contentment will come over New York like a mighty river. oh yeah!

POPSObama: The Opera the economy shall heal, America's enemies shall beat their bomb jackets into plowshares, the lame shall walk, there will be a chicken in every pot, the whole world shall have universal health care, all the prisoners in Guantanamo Bay will be released, and planes shall arrive and take off on schedule. Each stanza of this great aria is punctuated by the chorus ("Ohime! Salvatore!")
