But it wouldn't go down well with many progressives who expect Obama to stick to his promises to America before he sticks to Bush's promises to Iraq. The Iraq promise by Obama was to get out in 16 months. So...starting Jan. 20th 2009 that would be to May 2010. The SOFA says: "U.S. combat forces must also pull back “from all cities, towns and villages” long before that — “no later than June 30, 2009.” So...although not ALL OUT in fact there would be substantial withdrawal 10 months before Obama's promised withdrawal. The SOFA does also say it could be a faster demand for withdrawal...so no problem without doing it all before Dec. 2011. What I really like about the SOFA is that it appears to make it emphatic that it wants COMPLETE WITHDRAWAL...not some loophole to leave behind 20,000 troops or something. Anyhow, this can't hurt.
