I'm guessing this doesn't form the crux of Coke's next Marketing push

i guess this is enough to make you give up regular soda...at least for a couple of days..

Thus proving, yet again, the physical and moral superiority of the Lord's own beverage - BEER.

I hear ya, Bioplasmik.....'cept I'm going for the Breve, or the Latte, or just coffee in general.....yep....good stuff.

Hey ghiberti, I think it would a great marketing move....people like to ride the wild side...go against the tide...take a little risk....someone should suggest it to them, I think.
I don't think I've had a soda for like 5 years or something.... (all coffee and tea, and BOTTLED water, baby!!)...but I might start up again...just cuz it would show off my rebellious side....hehe

I rarely drink sodas anymore, except for club soda, but I have heard that you can eat a whole pencil with very little effect
{I am but / not kidding}.

SabySue,
someone should suggest it to them, I think.
Given that cm is pure zeitgeist (and as such is surely poured over by marketing analysts the world over) I think you just did

so...let's see...is the obviously biased message you are trying for...umm.....if you like Coke, you'll love heroin?

(haha nrecob, my thoughts exactly) Really the damage it does to your digestive system is probably more of a priority than some silly sugar crash that could be easily cured with a few hits off the crack pipe...er I mean, a glass of water...or ..hmm....well I guess I'll just have another coke

Yeah, I guess ignorance must be bliss. You'd rather deplete your body of necessary elements and slowly destroy yourself into a blob with no teeth and osteoporosis than deprive yourself of a momentary boost with sweetness as the lure. Real smart thinking. Have fun paddling up DeNile.

that's why cyclists have traditionally downed some in the home stretch of a race. Which points out there is nothing wrong with Coke if you need the energy. If you do a 100 mile bike ride the RDA of sugars are meaningless--you'll need plenty or you'll hit the wall. I'd bet the cola berry, like coffee beans, chocolate, etc., is rich in flavinoids, polyphenols and other healthful anti-oxidant compounds--So quit being hysterical.

Mummy, the scientician is scaring me!
While you're at it you might want to warn us about dihydrogen monoxide, that stuff's a killer if you breathe it in.

My personal favourite nugget of Scary Science:
"Your body ups your dopamine production stimulating the pleasure centers of your brain. This is physically the same way heroin works, by the way."

Ooh, and heroin's bad! Therefore so is Coke. Also ice cream, sex, stroking a puppy, the love of another human being, all those damn dopamine-inducing experiences should be BANNED, I tell you.

One thing particularly unusual for me is, after drinking Jolt Cola, I don't feel a rush or anything. I was expecting a lot more. Everytime I hear someone talking about a "caffeine rush" — well, I've never experienced such a thing.

Way to incite riotious commenting! "Coke is the real thing," yeah, sure.

If people would drink less chemically laden drinks and eat more clean food (think apple off the tree, rather than apple juice, or worse Apple Jacks cereal

Diet coke is my choice - but water is always the best choice. With me, it's whatever's handy to grab at the time.

Does anybody know of a similar study on lettuce, carrots or vegetables in general?

I am trying to give these up - but need a scientific reason to justify this to myself.

I was having some gastro-intestinal problems and asked my doctor if drinking Coca-cola would help since I'd heard it had a lot of rehydrating properties. He told me it has recently been demonstrated scientifically that the caffeine ingested with phosphoric acid causes a tremendous boost in caffeine and a heightened effect of acid in the stomach and intestines which in turn aggravates all gastro-intestinal problems. He said it might be the fastest way to destroy my gut and suggested I switch to beer. He had nothing against caffeine. Or sugar in moderation. He just said that the particular combination of caffeine with phosphoric acid was a killer. I must say that I have never experience...

I prefer Coke over Pepsi anyday, but i can't stand Diet Coke; the worst drink ever. I rarely drink pop drinks anyway; fruit juice is the way to go.

Don't think I didn't see you creeping quitely to drink your coke after scaring everyone...

skashliwal, I'm really curious with what you meant by "live demo"

i excused myself from all such drinks around two years ago when i was
made aware of effects of the same in live demo at my home... am really
thankful to him.
Coke in Europe and Coke in the US curiously doesn't seem to share the same effects, as I wouldn't go as far as to say it's the people that doesn't share the same metabolism...
