that's the bad taste of the pill! But I say: Why are the drugs so expensie, that insurances don't pay? In germany was a dispute this year about a drug, that is needed in big doses to treat cancer. So it is packed in this big packs for a even expensive price. But exactly the same drug in very small doses is needed for eyes. Therefore it's packed in very smalll packs and costs nearly 30 x of the other. But it's not allowed, that eye-medicine takes the cancer-medicine for eyes! We have a democratic instituton: the "Kartellamt", who shall watch the building of monopole concerns. But today they are so big and multinational, that the Kartellamt can't stop them. A guy from the UK came to Spain with a heart condition and was operated on here in Spain but had been refused the treatment in the UK because he was considered to be too old and he is now living a normal healthy life.

That's seriously sad brightlight. I feel that my experience has been different. I had a serious operation at the age of 70 in the UK and it was very successful. What can we do about ageism in the health service? I suppose getting active politically, lobbying and making comments like this on Clipmarks?

There is reference within the article on the subject of pricing of medication Kreuzberg. There is reference to blatent profiteering.
I think the governments have to be active. In the UK there is control of prices to a degree within the health service and this has an effect on the private sector. The private sector has to match the prices in the public sector otherwise it will not be able to compete.
The US is a different case. The public seem to have a congenital antipathy to anything which they consider socialized medicine. Most European countries cannot understand that attitude. Governments must take the lead.

I guess the more people know about this sort of thing in the UK the better, rather than just on here, perhaps put it on other sites where Brits read will also help, or even on the European Community site for politicians to take action perhaps?
